Q: Can you bring us up to speed on what’s happening with the Ebola outbreak?
A: Sure. There’s been a massive outbreak of the Ebola virus in Africa, starting in West Africa and spreading to Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leona. The latest numbers have almost 2,000 people infected since the beginning of the year, with about half of those resulting in death.

A: Yes, there’s a great deal of concern from international health organizations about the spread of Ebola, particularly because it’s both highly contagious and deadly. Agencies from around the world, including the U.N. health agency, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are taking an active role in attempting to stop the spread of the virus.

A: We have daily cross-functional calls with our product development and commercial teams in the Americas, EMEA, Japan and APAC and external calls and meetings to ensure we are supporting the CDC, WHO, NICD (Africa) and Public Health labs around the globe. These efforts are meant to strengthen our relationship with these organizations and ensure the public is safe from this devastating virus. We have gone through these fire drills before with other outbreaks, including the H1N1 2009 pandemic, MERS, SARS, and the H7N9 avian flu.

With 50% mortality rates from this terrible virus, it should make us all proud to work for a company that has a direct impact in helping make the world healthier and safer.
